What PACS is all about
Picture Archiving and Communications Systems (PACS) coordinate all aspects of digital imaging in a hospital or clinic. This includes capturing images from DICOM and non-DICOM video sources, storing this information in a secure environment, and distributing/displaying clinical images and corresponding diagnostic information. A successful PACS should also seamlessly integrate with existing hospital systems, for example, to share information about scheduled exams. The central server is considered the "brain" and controls the information flow between PACS components.
The solution's modular design makes it extremely flexible and scaleable. It can just as easily be deployed in a large hospital as in a small outpatient clinic and can be outfitted with tools to address both environments unique workflow concerns.
